About Nilya Press
We rebind the paperback you already own.
Nilya Press is a mail-in spiral binding workshop in Northern Virginia. You post us a softcover book you already own; we trim off the glued spine, fit a plastic spiral coil and post it back, so it lies flat.
What we do
Most books that refuse to stay open are glued paperbacks: a cookbook on the counter, a service manual under the car, a songbook on a stand. We take that copy, trim about 3 mm of glued spine away, punch the pages four holes to the inch and turn a single plastic spiral coil through them. The book that comes back opens flat and folds back on itself.
It is still the book you sent. Your notes and stains stay where they were, and bookmarks and loose recipe cards come back in the order they arrived.
Who we are
Nilya Press is a small business in Northern Virginia, shipping across the United States. The same family runs Nilya Store, an independent online bookshop selling new books. When you write to us, a real person reads it, usually within a working day.
What we don’t do (yet)
We don’t print new books, at least not yet. For now there is nothing to typeset and no print run to order: every job is a book that already exists, and a single copy is the normal job. Printing may come later. Today, rebinding the books people already own is all we do.
Good to know before you post
We bind softcover books. A few kinds are not a good fit for a spiral coil: hardcovers, old or fragile books, books thicker than 1⅞″, and pages with an inner margin under ½″. The reasons are listed next to what we take and what we can’t, so you know before you head to the post office. Not sure about yours? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.
Pricing works the same way: measure the spine with a ruler and you will see the price on screen before you commit to anything.
What we promise
- Price before you post. Measure the spine and the price is on screen before you commit.
- Tracked both ways. A prepaid label to send it in, and the return tracking number the day it leaves.
- Photographed first. Every book is photographed on the bench before a blade touches it.
- We call before we cut. If an inner margin is too tight to punch, we stop and ask you.
- Back free if we can’t. A book we cannot bind goes home untouched, at our cost.
- Four to six working days in the workshop, plus postage each way. If a job will run long, we tell you.
Already spiral bound
Want a book that is sold spiral bound?
Some books are published spiral bound from the start. Our sister shop, Nilya Store, sells those ready-made editions, so there is nothing to post in and no binding to wait for. If you already own the paperback, send it to us instead.
