Shipping policy

Your book travels twice: to us, and back to you. Both legs are tracked, and we pay for both.

Getting your book to us

When we quote your job we email a prepaid shipping label. Print it, attach it, and hand the parcel over. You do not pay for postage in either direction.

Pack the book properly. Wrapping guidance is in our journal, but the short version is: one layer of paper against the cover, then padding, then a box or a rigid mailer. A book that arrives crushed cannot be un-crushed, and the packing is the part we cannot do for you.

Do not send anything other than the book. We will return loose items we find in the parcel, but we cannot be responsible for things we were not told to expect.

In the workshop

We photograph your book on the bench before a blade touches it. That record is how we settle any later question about the condition it arrived in, and you can ask for a copy at any time.

Normal turnaround is four to six working days from the day your book reaches us, plus postage each way. If a job is going to take longer we tell you rather than let the date pass.

Getting it back to you

Your book comes back boxed flat, with a tracking number sent the day it leaves us.

If something goes wrong in transit

Both legs are tracked and insured to the carrier's standard cover. If a parcel is lost or damaged in transit:

  • Tell us as soon as you notice. We open the claim, not you — the label is ours, so the carrier deals with us.
  • Keep the packaging if the parcel arrived damaged. Carriers routinely refuse claims without it.
  • We refund what you paid us in full, regardless of how the claim goes.

A refund is not the same as replacing your book, and we know it. For an out-of-print manual or a cookbook with fifteen years of notes in the margins there is no replacement to buy. That is the honest limit of what any courier and any bindery can offer you, and it is worth weighing before you post something irreplaceable.
