Terms of service

These terms cover the rebinding service offered by Nilya Press. Placing an order means you accept them.

What the service is

You send us a book you already own. We trim the glued strip from the spine, punch the block, fit a plastic spiral coil, and post it back.

This is not printing. We do not reproduce, copy or typeset anything. The book that comes back is the book you sent, rebound.

What we accept

Softcover books with a glued spine: paperbacks, manuals, workbooks, sheet music, field guides, brochures, pattern booklets.

We do not accept:

  • Hardcovers. A case-bound book has to have its boards cut off and the block re-trimmed before a coil can go near it. That is a different trade.
  • Old or fragile books. Paper past a certain age tears at the punch instead of cutting, and nothing undoes that. An heirloom wants a conservation bindery.
  • Blocks thicker than 1⅞ inches, which is the largest coil we stock less the clearance it needs to turn.
  • Inner margins under half an inch, where the punch would cut into your text.

If you send us something on this list, we post it back to you unbound at our cost and you pay nothing. We do not attempt jobs we have said we will not do.

Your book, and your right to send it

By sending us a book you confirm that it is yours to send, and that having it rebound does not breach any agreement you are under. Rebinding a book you own, for your own use, is ordinary. We are not in a position to judge anything beyond that, and we do not take on the question of whether a particular job is permitted — that remains yours.

We will not knowingly rebind material produced by copying someone else's work.

Pricing and payment

The price depends on the thickness of the block, plus any finishing options and tracked return shipping. You see the figure before you commit, and it does not change afterwards unless the book turns out to be different from what was described — in which case we re-quote and wait for you to agree.

Payment is taken when the order is placed.

Turnaround

Four to six working days in the workshop, plus postage each way. These are estimates and not guarantees; we tell you when something is going to run long.

Our liability

We take reasonable care of every book in our custody and photograph each one before any work begins.

Where a book is lost or damaged through our error, our liability is limited to refunding everything you paid us and covering the postage. We cannot replace a book, and for an out-of-print title there may be nothing to replace it with. If a book is irreplaceable to you, consider carefully before posting it anywhere, to us or to anyone else.

For loss or damage in transit, see our shipping policy.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes

We may update these terms. The version in force is the one published here on the day you place your order.
